Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
My Teaser this week is from The Secret Place by Tana French
The photo shows a boy who was murdered a year ago.
The caption says, ‘I KNOW WHO KILLED HIM’.
Detective Stephen Moran hasn’t seen Holly Mackey since she was a nine-year-old witness to the events of Faithful Place. Now she’s sixteen and she’s shown up outside his squad room, with a photograph and a story.
Even in her exclusive boarding school, in the graceful golden world that Stephen has always longed for, bad things happen and people have secrets. The previous year, Christopher Harper, from the neighbouring boys’ school, was found murdered on the grounds. And today, in the Secret Place – the school noticeboard where girls can pin up their secrets anonymously – Holly found the card.
Solving this case could take Stephen onto the Murder squad. But to get it solved, he will have to work with Detective Antoinette Conway – tough, prickly, an outsider, everything Stephen doesn’t want in a partner. And he will have to find a way into the strange, charged, mysterious world that Holly and her three closest friends inhabit and disentangle the truth from their knot of secrets, even as he starts to suspect that the truth might be something he doesn’t want to hear. My Teaser
‘Like we’re these products our parents shat out, and McKenna’s patting all their heads and telling them what a good job they did, and they’re wagging their tails and licking her hand and just about peeing on the floor. How does she know? What if my parents never read a book in their lives and they feed me deep-fried mars bars for every meal?’
‘She doesn’t care,’ Becca says. ‘She just wants to make them feel good about spending a load of money to get rid of us.’
What do you think? Do you want to know who killed him?
Please post your teaser link in the comments below.
This sounds interesting. I’d definitely pick it up!

Uh, oh. Just googled this and found out it’s a series set in Ireland. I’ll be putting the first one, In the Woods, on my tbr list. Thanks, Cleo.
Mine today is Metro Girl, the first in Janet Evanovich’s Alex Barnaby series. http://wp.me/pZnGI-bM

This is a great series and quite a clever one as each book has just one character from the previous book so the stories are really varied and can all be read as a stand-alone too. I love her writing and think each one in the series is worth a read.

That’s an interesting way to work it.

Oh, Cleo, I really like Tana French’s work! I’ll be really keen to read what you think of this one once you’ve had a chance to read it. I know I”m interested in reading it myself.

I simply love this series as much because it isn’t a series in the conventional sense rather a group of books loosely linked by a character from the previous book, you just don’t know what aspect of policing is going to turn up. This one is a cracker which I’m simultaneously desperate to finish while wanting to savour such a good read. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it.

Oh yes, I definitely want to read more! And I love how these girls are so pragmatic about their parents and being in an exclusive boarding school!
Great teaser, Cleo 🙂

There are lots of quotable bits in this book with the characters leaping off the page and underneath there is the feeling of tension as the Police try to find out who killed him!

What I’ve read so far makes me think this is my favourite of this series but they are all good and well worth a read.

You can certainly feel the urge for justification in this teaser, I hope though that they do not feed these children “deep-fried mars bars for every meal.” Gah!
