Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teaser this week is from Equilibrium by Evie Woolmore
Blurb
Epiphany and Martha are sisters with a stage mediumship act in Edwardian London. When they are asked to give a private spiritualist reading at the home of Lady Adelia Lyward to find out the truth about her brother’s death, Martha must face up to her past. For two years ago, her affair with Lord Rafe Lyward ended in pregnant disgrace, and her attempted suicide in the River Thames. But there is more at stake than Martha’s anonymous return, for Epiphany bears the burden of restoring the equilibrium, not just to the Lywards but to her sister and ultimately to herself.
Equilibrium has been awarded the Awesome Indies Seal of Approval, and is a recommended read by the Historical Novel Society.
Goodreads
My quote:
Adelia found the whole concoction too sweet, but it provided ample nourishment for the ladies’ empty wittering in the drawing room afterwards, and saved her from struggling to find something else to talk to them about.
There is some social advantage in keeping a temperamental artiste de la cuisine below stairs.

Thanks Andrea – A very serious TT from you this week. I was unsure about equilibrium but so far I’m enjoying a different take on historical fiction.

Fair enough – to be honest I wasn’t too sure but it is much better than I expected and different to my normal read… Thanks for popping back!

I found that with Pride & Prejudice. I grimaced when I started reading that, and ended up thoroughly enjoying it, so you never know.

It has certainly won me over! Just come across a mention of Einstein as the odious patent clerk. All good stuff.

How very generous of you all to be thinking about my book. One of the reasons I love Kindle is that it gives you a chance to try a bit of a book without buying it or loitering in a bookshop for too long… So if you aren’t sure, or you think you might like it but want to try it first, go and download a sample and make your mind up for free. I am very grateful to Cleopatralovesbooks for taking the time to read and review it!
And thanks for a super teaser – what a fun bit to have picked! Poor Adelia – we can imagine just how difficult it must be to be a Downton Abbey-esque sort of wife…
My teaser offering is from Lucy Wood’s gorgeous book of short stories, Diving Belles:
“There was sea foam floating at the edge and it looked like bits of old omelette. Oscar thought about throwing some at Grandma, but decided not to.” (And you will want to read on, because the next sentence is wonderful!)
