Hosted by Lipsy Lost & Found my Wednesday post gives you a taste of what I am reading this week. A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words
Happy Halloween one and all here’s hoping you have a good ghost story to send you into All Saint’s Day.
My current read is The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffiths which fits the bill perfectly!

Clare Cassidy is no stranger to tales of murder. As a literature teacher specialising in the Gothic writer R.M. Holland, she teaches a short course on them every year. Then Clare’s life and work collide tragically when one of her colleagues is found dead, a line from an R.M. Holland story by her body.
The investigating police detective is convinced the writer’s works somehow hold the key to the case. Not knowing who to trust, and afraid that the killer is someone she knows, Clare confides her darkest suspicions and fears about the case to her journal. Then one day she notices some other writing in the diary. Writing that isn’t hers… Amazon
The last book I finished was The Murder of Harriet Monckton by Elizabeth Haynes, a superbly executed novel based upon Victorian true crime.
Next up I’m considering reading A Bird in the Hand by Ann Cleeves, a book written by this now accomplished author at the beginning of her writing career back in 1986

In England’s birdwatching paradise, a new breed has been sighted – a murderer . . .
Young Tom French was found dead, lying in a marsh on the Norfolk coast, with his head bashed in and his binoculars still around his neck. One of the best birders in England, Tom had put the village of Rushy on the birdwatching map. Everyone liked him. Or did they?
George Palmer-Jones, an elderly birdwatcher who decided quietly to look into the brutal crime, discovered mixed feelings aplenty. Still, he remained baffled by a deed that could have been motivated by thwarted love, pure envy, or something else altogether.
But as he and his fellow “twitchers” flocked from Norfolk to Scotland to the Scilly Isles, in response to rumours of rare sightings, George – with help from his lovely wife, Molly – gradually discerned the true markings of a killer. All he had to do was prove it . . . before the murderer strikes again. Amazon
What do you think? Any of these books take your fancy this week?
I have only read a handful of books by Elly Griffiths, but I do enjoy her style. I keep meaning to pick up more of them. Thanks for sharing, and here’s MY WWW POST

I’m loving The Stranger Diaries too and I’ll confess I was doubtful not being a fan of ghosts and ghoulies – and what can I say Harriet Monckton is indeed superb!

I’ve just been hearing how good the Griffiths is, Cleo! I hope you’ll really enjoy it, and post about it when you’ve finished. And I do want to read that Haynes. It’s just up my street, I think.

I am enjoying The Stranger Diaries which just goes to prove how versatile Elly Griffiths is – I think you’d love the Elizabeth Haynes book too – again unlike her previous novels and I’d dare to say better… (even though I’ve loved them all) but more of that in my review!

I’m really excited about Elly Griffiths’ new book. Hope it works well for you. I’ll be reading it as well. And I didn’t know that Elizabeth Haynes had a new book. Yay for that! I want to read those bird books by Ann Cleeves too. So many lovely books!

The Elizabeth Haynes book is great although very different to her previous books – and despite not really being a ghost kind of girl, I’m loving the Elly Griffiths too.

I recently finished The Stranger Diaries and enjoyed it. I still like the Ruth Galloway books more though. I see you listed an Ann Cleeves book; I adore her Shetland series. Have your read any of those?

We read The Moth Catcher by Ann Cleeves for our mystery book club at work. I thought it was very good. And we’re going to read The Glass Room in April. I remember seeing A Bird in the Hand while researching Ann Cleeves – hope you enjoy it!

Thanks – I need to catch up with the Vera series as I’m really behind but I thought this one would be a good variation.
