Well that’s the worst two months of the year over and I’m happy with some great reads promised for March!
At the moment I have just started Quieter Than Killing by Sarah Hilary which is the fourth in the DI Marnie Rome series set in London. Quieter Than Killing will be published in the UK on 9 March 2017.
Blurb
It’s winter, the nights are dark and freezing, and a series of seemingly random assaults is pulling DI Marnie Rome and DS Noah Jake out onto streets of London. When Marnie’s family home is ransacked, there are signs that the burglary can have only been committed by someone who knows her. Then a child goes missing, yet no-one has reported it. Suddenly, events seem connected, and it’s personal.
Someone out there is playing games. It is time for both Marnie and Noah to face the truth about the creeping, chilling reaches of a troubled upbringing. Keeping quiet can be a means of survival, but the effects can be as terrible as killing. Amazon
I have just finished When the Sky Fell Apart by Caroline Lea, a book set here in the little island of Jersey during the occupation by the Germans in the Second World War. This heart-breaking story will be published in paperback on 2 March 2017.
Blurb
It starts with the burning man on the beach just after the bombs land, obliterating the last shred of hope that Hitler will avert his attention from the Channel Islands. Within weeks, 12,000 German troops land on the Jersey beaches, heralding a new era of occupation.
For ten-year-old Claudine, it means a re-education under German rule, and as she befriends one of the soldiers, she inadvertently opens the gateway to a more sinister influence in her home with devastating consequences.
For Maurice, a local fisherman, it means protecting his sick wife at all costs—even if it endangers his own life.
Edith, the island’s unofficial homeopath, is a Jerriais through to her bones. But even she can’t save everyone, no matter how hard she tries. And as for English doctor Tim Carter—on the arrival of the brutal German Commandant, he becomes the subject of a terrifying regime that causes the locals to brand him a traitor, unaware of the torment he suffers in an effort to save them. Amazon
Next up is going to be Everything but the Truth by Gillian McAllister which is going to be published in the UK on 9 March 2017.
Blurb
It all started with the email.
Rachel didn’t even mean to look. She loves Jack and she’s pregnant with their child. She trusts him.
But now she’s seen it, she can’t undo that moment. Or the chain of events it has set in motion.
Why has Jack been lying about his past? Just what exactly is he hiding? And doesn’t Rachel have a right to know the truth at any cost? Amazon
Have you read any of these? Do you want to?
What are your reading this week? Do share!

Can’t wait for the latest Sarah Hilary – I have it on my e-reader but am trying to pace myself and read something else first. Why do we do that to ourselves?

All these books sound great. I am interested in the WW1 fiction since I have only read one book(The Book Thief) set in that time period. I will look out for your review.
Happy reading Cleo.

Thank you Diana – you don’t have to wait long the review is up today – it was particularly enjoyable for me because I live in Jersey but there is a human interest story to go alongside the over-arching one about the occupation.

Oh, these all look great, Cleo. I’m especially interested in the Lea. When the war is brought down to the human level like that, it can make for a really compelling read.
