This Week In Books

Lypsyy Lost & Found my Wednesday post gives you a taste of what I am reading this week. A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words

Still struggling with reading hence the missing This Week in Books for last Wednesday, which was identical to that of the week before!

At the moment I’m reading Liane Moriarty’s latest novel Truly, Madly, Guilty

Truly Madly Guilty

Blurb

Despite their differences, Erika and Clementine have been best friends since they were children. So when Erika needs help, Clementine should be the obvious person to turn to. Or so you’d think.
For Clementine, as a mother of a two desperately trying to practise for the audition of a lifetime, the last thing she needs is Erika asking for something, again. But the barbecue should be the perfect way to forget their problems for a while. Especially when their hosts, Vid and Tiffany, are only too happy to distract them. Which is how it all spirals out of control… NetGalley

I have recently finished The Beauty of the End by Debbie Howells, a deep and chilling psychological thriller which was published on 26 July 2016

The Beauty of the End

Blurb

“I was fourteen when I fell in love with a goddess. . .”
So begins the testimony of Noah Calaway, an ex-lawyer with a sideline in armchair criminal psychology. Now living an aimless life in an inherited cottage in the English countryside, Noah is haunted by the memory of the beguiling young woman who left him at the altar sixteen years earlier. Then one day he receives a troubling phone call. April, the woman he once loved, lies in a coma, the victim of an apparent overdose–and the lead suspect in a brutal murder. Deep in his bones, Noah believes that April is innocent. Then again, he also believed they would spend the rest of their lives together.
While Noah searches for evidence that will clear April’s name, a teenager named Ella begins to sift through the secrets of her own painful family history. The same age as April was when Noah first met her, Ella harbors a revelation that could be the key to solving the murder. As the two stories converge, there are shocking consequences when at last, the truth emerges.
Or so everyone believes. . .
Set in a borderland where the past casts its shadow on the present, with a time-shifting narrative that will mesmerize and surprise, The Beauty of the End is both a masterpiece of suspense and a powerful rumination on lost love. NetGalley

Next I am planning on reading I See You by Claire Mackintosh

I See You

Blurb

You do the same thing every day.
You know exactly where you’re going.
You’re not alone.
When Zoe Walker sees her photo in the classifieds section of a London newspaper, she is determined to find out why it’s there. There’s no explanation: just a grainy image, a website address and a phone number. She takes it home to her family, who are convinced it’s just someone who looks like Zoe. But the next day the advert shows a photo of a different woman, and another the day after that.
Is it a mistake? A coincidence? Or is someone keeping track of every move they make . . . NetGalley

What are you reading this week? Any of these catch your eye?

  1. I love the cover of I See You!

It’s funny, I had never heard of Liane Moriarty until a few weeks ago, then I read an article abouut her and now I seem to see her popping up everywhere! Hope you’re enjoying Truly Madly Guilty.

  2. I quite enjoyed The Bones of You, so I look forward to your review of The Beauty of the End to see if Howells has surpassed herself 🙂
I’ve only read The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty, but I was impressed with how realistically she portrayed the characters’ often quite jumbled thought processes. I hope you’re enjoying Truly Madly Guiltily.

  3. After reading a thousand comments about how Moriarty is a great writer, I finally gave in and received The Husband’s Secret this week, I can’t wait to read it. I heard Truly Madly Guilty was almost as good.
I love the sound of The Beauty of The End. That title is so mysterious. I have seen I See You around a few times, I’m looking forward to your review to see if it should be added to my wishlist 🙂
    Happy reading 🙂

  4. I’m reading a medieval mystery called The Bookseller’s Tale by Ann Swinfen. It’s set in medieval Oxford and I’m enjoying it probably because I was a bookseller, have lived in Oxford and am fascinated by illuminated manuscripts. I know Oxford pretty well and it’s fun trying to work out the medieval city from the present day. There’s lots of fascinating stuff in there about how books were actually made which I love.

I started The Beauty of the End last night and I think it’s going to be an engrossing read, I hope to be able to read more this afternoon. I hope I See You is good, I’ll look out for your review once you’ve read it.

      1. Like you I found the start slow and I’m really finding all the “we all know something you don’t know” stuff annoying, but she’s gradually winning me round. I’m still only about a third of the way through though – might try and blitz it over the weekend…

  7. So many good titles– all already on my wishlist. I enjoyed the two Moriarty books I’ve read, so I really want to pick this one up, and it has gotten very good buzz this summer. I’ve read the last book by Howells and enjoyed that one too. Thanks for sharing these.

  9. I keep missing this post on a Wednesday, I don’t know why… Sounds like you are having a fun and quite thrilling reading week!
I was being a good girl and reading one of my Women in Translation titles (Near to the Wild Heart by Clarice Lispector), but the fragmented, jumbled prose was too much for me with my interrupted thoughts at the moment and hundreds of To Do lists. So I read Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant instead – just the kind of escapism in Greece and page-turning excitement needed.
