Last week went a bit awry so while I fully intended to be reading Testament of Youth, deadlines mean that I have shuffled the books and have a different collection to share with you this week.
I am currently reading The Shrimp and the Anemone by L.P. Hartley which is number 8 in my 20 Books of Summer Challenge.
An evocative account of a childhood summer spent beside the sea in Norfolk by brother and sister, Eustace and Hilda and is the first in a trilogy of tales about these siblings. The Shrimp and the Anemone takes place when they are children, The Sixth Heaven when they are in their early 20’s, and Eustace and Hilda finalises the trilogy when they are in their late 20’s.
I have just finished Lie With Me by Sabine Durrant a fast-moving psychological thriller which unusually has a man as the protagonist.

Next up I am planning on reading Liz Nugent’s second novel, Lying in Wait which will be published on 7 July 2016. If you can’t wait that long, and haven’t already done so I highly recommend her debut novel: Unravelling Oliver!

Cleopatra Loves Books 
Of those, I like the sound of Lying in Wait the most. You can’t beat a good “body under the patio”/”in the trunk in the corner” story! Sometimes it’s nice to be in on the secret from the start and watch as everything unravels. The Columbo approach to crime story writing!

Lying in Wait should be good as Unravelling Oliver was a fantastic read and similar in a way in that we knew what had happened from the outset.

I’ve been struggling with my reading (and writing) – hard to concentrate on anything. I really need to grow a thicker skin. Or else find the perfect page-turning book to make me forget about everything.
I’ve just abandoned the book I was reading: a French thriller writer (and screenwriter). It was a book about jihadists which looked interesting on paper, but didn’t start as well as I expected and after about 80-100 pages or so I gave up.
I am about to embark on Isabel Costello’s Paris Mon Amour, which is a love story with quite a few thrills, or so I am informed.

Isn’t it always the way, Cleo? Life gets in the way of…life. I am looking forward to your review of Lie With Me; it sounds intriguing. And Lying in Wait sounds fascinating, too. I think you’ve got some good reading in store.

I really shouldn’t complain as much of life being busy is the good stuff, but.. I do miss my reading! I’m hoping to snatch a few hours to get through this lovely bunch.

I really find Lie With Me intriguing. I love a prologue that sends me lots of questions to ponder on right from the start. But I admit a rich and influential couple burying a body in their garden sounds like a story a reader can’t miss!

Oh Kate – yes I did read lots on my holiday thank you – I’m actually behind schedule because July is full of review books and my daughter is getting married so each time I think I have a bit of free time, I get told I’ve got jobs to do 😉
