This Week In Books

Lypsyy Lost & Found my Wednesday post gives you a taste of what I am reading this week. A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words

At the moment I am reading Play Dead by Angela Marsons

Play Dead

You can read the synopsis and an extract for this book in yesterday’s postpost

I have just finished Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica which will be published on 19 May 2016 by Mira UK.

Don't You Cry

Blurb

In downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to My Dearest is found among her possessions, leaving her friend and roommate Quinn Collins to wonder where Esther is and whether or not she’s the person Quinn thought she knew.
Meanwhile, in a small Michigan harbour town an hour outside Chicago, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet coffee shop where 18 year old Alex Gallo works as a dishwasher. He is immediately drawn to her charm and beauty, but what starts as an innocent crush quickly spirals into something far more dark and sinister.
As Quinn searches for answers about Esther, and Alex is drawn further under the stranger’s spell, Mary Kubica takes readers on a taut and twisted rollercoaster ride that builds to a stunning conclusion. NetGalley

Next up is The Accidental Life of Greg Millar by Aimee Alexander which I was lucky enough to receive from the author.

The Accidental Life of Greg Millar

Blurb

Lucy Arigho’s first encounter with Greg Millar is far from promising, but she soon realises he possesses a charm that is impossible to resist. Just eight whirlwind weeks after their first meeting, level-headed career girl Lucy is seriously considering his pleas to marry him and asking herself if she could really be stepmother material.
But before Lucy can make a final decision about becoming part of Greg’s world, events plunge her right into it. On holiday in the South of France, things start to unravel. Her future stepchildren won’t accept her, the interfering nanny resents her, and they’re stuck in a heat wave that won’t let up. And then there’s Greg. His behaviour becomes increasingly bizarre and Lucy begins to wonder whether his larger-than-life personality hides something darker—and whether she knows him at all. Amazon

  1. I like Mary Kubica a lot, so look forward to hearing what you thought of this latest book. I’ve been reading a lot lately, as there is nothing much else I can do online (I wish I could say I was writing a lot, but all this internet malarkey has been a bit stressful and requiring lots of phone calls, in-person visits etc.). I’ve just finished a little French curiosity: Frederique Dard ‘Bird in a Cage’. I am currently reading Epiphany Jones by Michael Grothaus, which is shocking, in your face, with salacious humour, quite different from anything I’ve read recently. And next up is a French crime novel by Olivier Norek, who recently won a prize in Lyon, and is a former policeman.

    1. I can’t imagine how I’d cope without the internet long-term so I sympathise with you! It sounds as though you have some great reads – sometimes something totally different to your recent reads is just what’s needed!

  2. Don’t You Cry does sound intriguing, Cleo! And The Accidental… makes me wonder if we ever really know others at all – even other others in our inner circles. Sounds interesting and I’ll be looking forward to your reviews of both.

  3. Play Dead, I think, though the Aimee Alexander sounds as if it might be a bit of lighter fun – always hard to know from the blurb though, so I’ll wait to hear what you think…

  4. I like the sound of the Accidental Life of Greg Miller and the cover is very eye catching. I’d read all three books on your list to be honest.

  5. I’m reading Serafina and the Black Cloak; my 8 year old bought this at Book Fair after seeing it talked about on a video. She was so excited and I’m so proud of her b/c it is her first big girl book as there are no pictures included in the text. I’m really enjoying it. The opening chapter is spooky! I think fan of Neil Gaiman would like it. I’m also reading Eligible, the modern version of Pride and Prejudice. The chapters have me zippin’ along.
