This Week In Books

Lypsyy Lost & Found my Wednesday post gives you a taste of what I am reading this week. A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words

At the moment I am reading Little Bones by Sam Blake, a book that will be published in eBook format on 17 May 2016.

Little Bones

You can read the synopsis and a short extract from this book in yesterday’s post.

The last book I finished was The Last Days of Summer by Vanessa Ronan kindly sent to me by the publishers Penguin Ireland.

The Last Days of Summer

She can forgive. They can’t forget.
After ten years in the Huntsville State Penitentiary, Jasper Curtis returns home to live with his sister and her two daughters. Lizzie does not know who she’s letting into her home: the brother she grew up loving or the monster he became.
Teenage Katie distrusts this strange man in their home but eleven-year-old Joanne is just intrigued by her new uncle.
Jasper says he’s all done with trouble, but in a forgotten prairie town that knows no forgiveness, it does not take long for trouble to arrive at their door … Amazon

The Last Days of Summer will be published tomorrow, 5 May 2016.

Next I am going to read the highly anticipated, the author’s previous two books were great and so different from each other, I can’t wait to see what she has in store for me this time! Don’t You Cry by Mary Kubica which will be published on 19 May 2016 by Mira UK.

Don't You Cry

Blurb

In downtown Chicago, a young woman named Esther Vaughan disappears from her apartment without a trace. A haunting letter addressed to My Dearest is found among her possessions, leaving her friend and roommate Quinn Collins to wonder where Esther is and whether or not she’s the person Quinn thought she knew.
Meanwhile, in a small Michigan harbour town an hour outside Chicago, a mysterious woman appears in the quiet coffee shop where 18 year old Alex Gallo works as a dishwasher. He is immediately drawn to her charm and beauty, but what starts as an innocent crush quickly spirals into something far more dark and sinister.
As Quinn searches for answers about Esther, and Alex is drawn further under the stranger’s spell, Mary Kubica takes readers on a taut and twisted rollercoaster ride that builds to a stunning conclusion. NetGalley

  1. I’m having fun with your new design! Yes, Mary Kubica is always very different and exciting, isn’t she, so I can fully understand you looking forward to her next book!
I’ve just finished reading ‘The Two Faces of January’ by Patricia Highsmith – I haven’t seen the recent film, but it does sound very filmic. I don’t think it’s her best effort, though, almost like she was having a bit of fun practising for some of her other books, but still enjoyable.
I am currently reading ‘Adios, Cowboy’ by a Croatian writer (can’t write her name off the top of my head, it’s so complicated), about returning to Zagreb many years after the war. And the next book: I want an exciting crime read and have got a few to choose from on Netgalley: A Rising Man, White Leopard, What Remains or The Cartel… Very far behind on reading there…

  2. I loved Mary Kubica’s previous two books so I’m really excited to read the new one. I’ll be looking out for your review of it. I have The Last Days of Summer coming up very soon and can’t wait to read it. Did you enjoy it?

Hope you have a good week, full of books. 🙂

(Btw, I love your new comments box with the airmail envelope around it – it makes me smile every time I comment on your blog).

    1. I’m still pondering about what I’m going to say about The Last Days of Summer – it was very good but ‘enjoy’ isn’t quite the right word 😉

Thank you – the envelope is a favourite feature of mine too – thanks for visiting and leaving your link 🙂

  3. The Last Days of Summer does sound interesting, Cleo, and I’m intrigued by the context. And I am keen to know what you thought of Little Bones; I do hear good things about that one.

  4. I’m ‘reading’ my first true audiobook this week – The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan. Enjoying the story but missing not being able to mark passages I like. Not sure how I will review it!

  5. I’m reading Operation Salazar these days. It’s about a bunch of characters– a couple, two thieves, policemen, a pawn shop owner– and a precious statue. I love how crazy it could be sometimes, even when nothing is absolutely happening.

Don’t You cry sounds pretty crazy as well. Sigh. And I told myself I’d read something lighter.

  6. Hmm… I think The Last Days of Summer would be my pick. Sounds very intriguing and I like the idea of the prairie town setting. I wonder what he did…

  7. I tried reading Mary Kubica’s last book, but I don’t think that genre is for me. I will have to recommend it to a friend who loves those books! You have some great books on here. Here’s my post.
