This Week In Books

Hosted by Lypsyy Lost & Found my Wednesday post gives you a taste of what I am reading this week. A similar meme is run by Taking on a World of Words

At the moment I have just started The Hidden Legacy by G.J. Minett

The Hidden Legacy

Blurb

1966. A horrifying crime at a secondary school, with devastating consequences for all involved.
2008. A life-changing gift, if only the recipient can work out why . . .
Recently divorced and with two young children, Ellen Sutherland is up to her elbows in professional and personal stress. When she’s invited to travel all the way to Cheltenham to hear the content of an old woman’s will, she’s far from convinced the journey will be worthwhile.
But when she arrives, the news is astounding. Eudora Nash has left Ellen a beautiful cottage worth an amount of money that could turn her life around. There’s just one problem – Ellen has never even heard of Eudora Nash.
Her curiosity piqued, Ellen and her friend Kate travel to the West Country in search of answers. But they are not the only ones interested in the cottage, and Ellen little imagines how much she has to learn about her past . . .
Graham Minett’s debut novel, The Hidden Legacy, is a powerful and suspenseful tale exploring a mysterious and sinister past. Amazon

I have just finished Smoke and Mirrors by Elly Griffiths

Smoke and Mirrors

You can read a taster and the description for this book in yesterday’s post

Next up is Lost Girls by Angel Marsons, the third in the brilliant series featuring Kim Stone which began with Evil Games

Lost Girls

Blurb

Two girls go missing. Only one will return.
The couple that offers the highest amount will see their daughter again. The losing couple will not. Make no mistake. One child will die.
When nine-year-old best friends Charlie and Amy disappear, two families are plunged into a living nightmare. A text message confirms the unthinkable; that the girls are the victims of a terrifying kidnapping.
And when a second text message pits the two families against each other for the life of their children, the clock starts ticking for D.I. Kim Stone and the squad.
Seemingly outwitted at every turn, as they uncover a trail of bodies, Stone realises that these ruthless killers might be the most deadly she has ever faced. And that their chances of bringing the girls home alive, are getting smaller by the hour…
Untangling a dark web of secrets from the families’ past might hold the key to solving this case. But can Kim stay alive long enough to do so? Or will someone’s child pay the ultimate price? NetGalley

  1. Great selection, Cleo. All victims for my TBR list.
I just finished Mis(s) Fortune – A Memoir by Albina Hume (my review went live yesterday).
I am reading Chained by Susanne Valenti and Wanted – Single Rose by Mav Skye.

  2. I’m a fan of Elly Griffiths, so delighted that you’ve been reading that one. And The Hidden Legacy really does sound terrific, Cleo. I’ll be looking forward to your review of that one.

  3. Nice list! I still haven’t read The Zig Zag Gilrl by Griffiths! I am such a fan of her Ruth Galloway books, i don’t know what’s keeping me:-) I just started the third Robert Galbraith a.k.a. Rowling book about Cormoran Strike, Career of Evil, and it’s quite good so far.

      1. Well, to be fair, your shelves are stacked;-) But the first one was quite good, the second was a little too long and left a bit tedious, but I’m enjoying the third so far. Mind you, it’s quite a doorstop, Rowling clearly does not have an issue with getting to a minimum word count…

  4. All three titles sound like great reads and have found their way to my wishlist. I have been trying to read more mystery/thriller stories lately, so these are perfect.

    Happy Wednesday! Here’s my WWW.

  5. Oh, all of these are good. I need to start the first of the Angela Marsons’ books. I have the first two of them. And Hidden Legacy sounds lovely. Have gone to preorder it. We already talked about the Elly Griffiths book. You are doing well, as always in my book Cleo. Have I told you for umpteenth time how many book suggestions (needs, wishes, obsessions?) I get from you. LOL LOL

  6. Hidden Legacy sounds similar to a book I read recently, The Attic Room, but it would be interesting to compare and see where different writers end up despite the same opening premise. A very ‘crimey’ selection as usual!
I’ve just started reading for German Lit Month in November: Julia Franck’s West, about the would-be immigrants being ‘processed’ in a camp in Berlin – very topical. And I’ve just finished the latest Flavia de Luce novel, which is set in Canada for a change.

    1. I have the Attic Room by Linda Huber too, so if that is the one you mean I will also be doing the comparison at some point. Your books sound, as ever, very interesting – especially the one about the immigrants.
