Welcome to another Tuesday celebrating bookish events, from Tuesday/First Chapter/Intros, hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea Every Tuesday, Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea posts the opening paragraph (sometime two) of a book she decided to read based on the opening. Feel free to grab the banner and play along.
My opening this week comes from Nowhere Girl by Ruth Dugdall which is the fourth outing for Probation Officer Cate Austin, and the first one set in Luxembourg.
Blurb
Probation officer, Cate Austin, has moved for a fresh start, along with her daughter Amelia, to live with her police detective boyfriend, Olivier Massard. But when she realises just how casually he is taking the disappearance of Ellie, Cate decides to investigate matters for herself. She discovers Luxembourg has a dark heart. With its geographical position, could it be the centre of a child trafficking ring? As Cate comes closer to discovering Ellie’s whereabouts she uncovers a hidden world, placing herself in danger, not just from traffickers, but from a source much closer to home. NetGalley

First Chapter ~ First Paragraph ~ Intro
Day 0
SCHUEBERFOUER, AUGUST 2015
Ellie
The ferris wheel dominates the Luxembourg skyline. A show-stopper, luring the tourists away from the city’s cathedral and the Duke’s palace, dazzling them with its brilliant rainbow of lights. It turns slowly, gaudy and bright, higher even than the supermoon that glowers above the city.

I’d like to keep reading. One of the reasons I love to read is because reading takes me to places I haven’t been. Sounds interesting too.

I think this may be my first book that is set in Luxembourg so even better that it features a character I’ve already got to know!

I have to admit, I’ve not (yet) read a book that takes place in Luxembourg, Cleo. So the setting immediately got my attention. I’ll be really keen to know what you thought of this when you’ve finished it.

Me neither Margot – having loved the previous books featuring Kate Austin this is a great change of location.

This sounds like it could be a good one. It is good to see human trafficking being talked about in books.

It definitely makes for interesting reading, although the crime itself is a horrific one.

I love a good mystery and I enjoy when a book takes me to places I’ve only dreamed of visiting. I like the sound of the characters, too, and the intro reeled me in. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

I like the opening because it tells me where the story is set, plus creates a mood with the glowering moon. I’ve always wanted to visit Luxembourg.
Thank you for stopping by my blog today.

I’m ready,I think, to read another book about child trafficking. I’ve read one nonfiction. So emotional I had to move away from the subject for a while. Hope you have a good week.

It is a particularly difficult subject, I’m hoping this isn’t too upsetting.
