I am currently reading Burnt Paper Sky by Gilly Macmillan and I’m still engrossed in the public’s reaction to Rachel Jenner, mother to missing Benedict, who is judged on her performance on the televised appeal for his return.

The story is narrated in alternate chapters by the Tessa of 1995, soon to be a witness at the man’s trial, and today’s Tessa, tormented by the thought that if the wrong man has been convicted, the real killer is free and a danger to her and her daughter. Next I am planning on reading is The Mistake I Made by Paula Daly, I have loved her previous two books so I’m really looking forward to seeing what this one has in store.

I’ve heard good things about Burnt Paper Sky, but given that the set-up is my worst nightmare, I think I’d find it too traumatic! (over-active imagination 🙂

I’ve just been up since 4:30 a.m. finishing Burnt Paper Sky (well, I only read a couple of chapters last night, so basically read the whole thing in less than 12 hours). Completely addictive reading, I just couldn’t stop, although the subject usually traumatises me. I’ve heard good things about the other two books too, so look forward to hearing your thoughts.
So that’s my recently read. I’m currently reading something very uncharacteristic: a YA adventure fantasy called ‘The Wastelanders’. It’s written by my son’s beloved English teacher, so I just have to try it out. And I’ll be embarking on a diet of Tove Jansson ‘The True Deceiver’ and some Moomins as we go on holiday in a couple of days.

I must admit I’m enthralled by Burnt Paper Sky despite my concentration not up to mammoth reading sessions at the moment, this has me gripped. Oh how fantastic that your son’s teacher has written a book and you can’t beat the Moomins. Have a great holiday 🙂

That last one sounds a bit like Indecent Proposal–although I’m assuming that crime must sneak in somewhere if you’re reading it.

It does indeed, I chose it because I’ve enjoyed the previous books by this author but not entirely sure that this one will work quite as well for me 😉

Black-Eyed Susans sounds like it could be great – look forwrad to your review! It reminded me just a bit of The Never List by Koethi Zan – did you ever read that one?

I did read The Never List and Koethi Zan has her recommendation on the copy that I have so your comment is spot on (as usual). This one isn’t as gruesome though as all the recollections are after the crime has been committed and Tessa has no memory…

The Mistake I Made also sounds good but I’m not sure I’d read it.
