Margaret Holloway wrapped her scarf around her face before she walked out into the school car park. It was not long after four o’clock, but a winter pall had shifted over London. It was dusk already, wary streetlamps casting premature light on to the icy pavements. Snowflakes had begun to swirl and Margaret had blinked as one landed on her eyelashes. The first snow of the year had always brought a silence, dampening down all sound. She felt gratefully alone, walking out into the new darkness, hers the only footprints on the path. She had been too hot inside and the cold air was welcome.

Hmm, it’s one that could go either way for me. A few more pages before I would know. Then again I usually am willing to give a book about 50 pages before giving up, so.

I do like cold and snow description, but I think, for me, the blurb is more intriguing. And when I went and looked, this will be a book that has one title in your world and another in mine. It will be published in the US in October under the name Everything She Forgot. Why do they do that? (sigh) Yes, I’d keep reading, for sure.

Another author I haven’t yet experienced, but judging from the blurb and intro, I must! I love the idea of a childhood full of “holes and forgotten memories.” How intriguing!

Despite the opening the action soon moves to Scotland right up to close to John O’Groats which is a new destination for me… I’m really enjoying this one.

This sounds like a goodie, Cleo. I used to not like stories that jumped back and forth in time. But over the last decade or so, I’ve read several that I really liked.

I’m sure I would like this book if I read it. I have only ever struggled to finish one book. I know that feeling of silence after the first snow fall. Jury is still out if i would really like it but I love books with mysteries to unravel. My book I reviewed and gave an excerpt is Alive by Scott Sigler. Wow you’ve done better than me although it is still fairly rare for me not to finish a book. I’m loving the secrets set in the past, it had me hooked fairly swiftly.

The synopsis is pretty spot on although I agree with you that it isn’t the clearest of opening paragraphs… it gets better!
