  3. Humber Boy B does look intriguing – and has echoes to the Jamie Bulger killers. Interesting comparisons to be made perhaps with how child killers are reintegrated into society in places such as Norway (I remember reading an article about it a while ago). Look forward to your review.
    I haven’t done much reading, I’ve been feeling so poorly for the last 4 days that not much has gotten done. I did however finish Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel, which was good, but not quite as good as everyone had led me to believe. I am currently reading (or not reading) The Great War by a Serbian writer Gatalica – ‘epic’ is an understatement, as it follows the destinies of about 60-70 characters from all countries during the First World War. Interesting viewpoints, but not easy reading under the circumstances, and I keep getting my names mixed up.

    1. Yes it does, unsurprisingly as the author states in the afterword that she worked in young offender units working with people like the protagonist in this book. She does make it clear it isn’t about that crime though, even referencing that killing in the storyline. Sorry to hear you’ve been ill, are you like me and fancy a slightly different kind of read if you are under the weather? The Great War sounds interesting but requires concentration.

  6. Oh, Cleo, I have The Harbour Master coming up soon too! And the Cutler sounds terrific. I do love present mysteries that hinge on those from the past, and this sounds like a good ‘un!

    1. Thank you Laurel. My review of Humber Boy B will be up very soon, I’m having to be guarded in what I say though as this is one I’d really like to discuss but can’t spoil it for other readers.

  10. I have Humber Boy B, TBR soon, but the Judith Cutler intrigues me. I have a thing about anything that brings up the past, old secrets, cold cases – it’s a weakness of mine! Is it a new release, or something you’ve had floating around for a bit?

    1. Humber Boy B is thoroughly recommended by me, I’m not very far into Green and Pleasant Land but like you I enjoy those cold case plot-lines. I found it on NetGalley, she’s written a lot of books and her name rings a bell but I’m not sure whether I’ve read any 😉
