Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teaser this week is from Alice and the Fly by James Rice
Blurb
This is a book about phobias and obsessions, isolation and dark corners. It’s about families, friendships, and carefully preserved secrets. But above everything else it’s about love. Finding love – in any of its forms – and nurturing it.
Miss Hayes has a new theory. She thinks my condition’s caused by some traumatic incident from my past I keep deep-rooted in my mind. As soon as I come clean I’ll flood out all these tears and it’ll all be ok and I won’t be scared of Them anymore. The truth is I can’t think of any single traumatic childhood incident to tell her. I mean, there are plenty of bad memories – Herb’s death, or the time I bit the hole in my tongue, or Finners Island, out on the boat with Sarah – but none of these are what caused the phobia. I’ve always had it. It’s Them. I’m just scared of Them. It’s that simple. Goodreads
My Teaser
Later, after my fitting and my vomiting and the seemingly impossible task of regaining my breathing, my father had said that they can sometimes ride their webs like paragliders, floating for miles on the wind. He saw it once on a documentary. He said they were fascinating creatures. Then he saw Mum and I staring up at him and he stopped saying things and went back to bed.
This is proving to be an interesting read, there are some interview notes between the police and one of our protagonist’s classmates so I’m eager to find out how all of this fits together.
What do you think? Would you keep reading?
Please leave the links to your teasers in the comments box below.
I love tbe title and the blurb makes it very intriguing. Let me add it onto my TBR list.

This does seem a very unusual book, Cleo. Not sure it’s for me, but I’ll wait until your review…

It is unusual but I promised myself that I’d broaden my horizons a little in 2015 and this one sounded close in subject matter if quite different in delivery! You will of course be able to read my thoughts soon….

This one seems pretty interesting, but also on the cusp of flying over the precipice on the weird factor…depending on who “They” are!

That’s very well put Sarah – just the right side of weird at the moment but I have my doubts how long it will last!

I know what you are talking about and that is one of my fears. I recently had an MRI and that hit another one of my fears. I don’t think I would read this. I might be afraid. LOL

I’m thinking it’s spiders and I have a phobia of them too. Did you know that at any given time or place, there is one within 6 feet of you. Too creepy to think about. I’d love to read this!

This book has an interesting premise. I might further read it. Some people can be more complicated than others. I think about these shootings that have been happening on the new. Unraveling who they are now and how their lives were then are mysteries unto themselves.
