On All Hallows’ Eve, ex-convict Peter Boutrup is visiting his best friend’s grave when her estranged mother appears. Her son, Magnus, has disappeared, and she begs Peter to look for him.
The next day a young nun is pulled out of the moat at the convent in Djursland. She has been garrotted and Peter, who works there as a carpenter, was the last person to see her alive. Meanwhile, diver Kir Røjel finds an old box resting on the seabed. Inside are human bones. They are sixty years old, but the victim had also been garrotted.
While Peter is looking for Magnus, Detective Mark Bille Hansen is assigned to the case. He is determined to link the bones in the box with the girl in the moat – but the hunt for the truth leads both he and Peter down a path so dark, they fear they may never return. Bookbridgr
I recently finished reading The Girl in the Photograph by Kate Riordan a historical novel set in a manor house with one strand at the very end of the nineteenth century and another in the early thirties.
My review will follow shortly
Next I plan to read The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty
Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one she let get away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was to propose, she broke his heart. A year later he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie’s house on Scribbly Gum Island — home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.
Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it’s about time she started making her own decisions.
As Sophie’s life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around — and come up with your own fairy-tale ending. Goodreads

Ooh Liane Moriarty! I had my eye on that book last week sometime. I think I might have to get my hands on a copy! I hope you enjoy your books this week!

Ooh, can I join in? I am currently reading the Rabbit Back Literature Society by the Finnish author Pasi Ilmari Jaaskelainen. It’s very quirky and it’s taking me a while to get into it!
I’ve recently finished Lionel Shriver’s So Much For That, which I have reviewed for my blog.
Next up is The Girl With All The Gifts which is for my December book club in a few weeks!

Liane Moriarty is someone I really need to start reading…
I was planning to start Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes last night but then somehow ended up with Nina Stibbe’s Man at the Helm instead. Sometimes we need to go where our fancy takes us…

Oh I want to read Man at the Helme – I do hope your choice makes you smile.

Dead Souls looks good!
Me, I’ve just finished reading Joseph Canon’s Stardust and I’m currently reading Bill Pronzini’s Nothing but the Night.
As for what’s next? Well, as MarinaSofia says, “Sometimes we need to go where our fancy takes us.” I’ve no real idea what I’ll be reading next for pleasure. . . although a pal sent me a couple of yummy books for my birthday so it may well be one of those. My next work read (starting this morning) is Joe Nickell’s Psychic Sleuths.

I agree in principle with MarinaSofia but I’ve been scheduling my reading for so long now I feel a little out of touch for just choosing. Lucky you for having such a great friend.

My favourite so far has to be Little Lies which was published this year as it has a mystery element and brilliant observational humour. Thanks for your kind words and leaving your link 🙂

I swore off Moriarty after 3 tries – she just doesn’t do it for me. I’m reading Florence Gordon right now and just finished An Untamed State.

Oh, dear, the first and the third are both quite likely to end up on my TBR, I fear. I await your reviews with trepidation…
I thought the comparisons to Jussi Adler-Olsen and Camilla Lackberg were a bit odd though – I don’t really think of the two of them as being particularly alike.

I love the phrase ‘mortifyingly single’ in The Last Anniversary blurb. It made me laugh.
