“How much is this place a day?” Emma asked, looking around disapprovingly at the formal floral curtains and matching bedspreads, the plush carpeting, high ceilings, and elaborately carved crown moldings.
“I’m not sure. Dad made the reservation”
“Well, I’ll bet it’s at least four hundred euros a day, more than many workers here earn in a month, if they’re lucky enough to have any job at all. It’s kind of obscene to pay that much in this economy”

Yes, it’s a fairly intense book that throws up a lot of different issues, not least how responsible a parent is for their child’s behaviour.

This one reminds me of Dangerous Girls and the Amanda Knox case. Sounds good.

I picked it because of the similarity to the trial of Amanda Knox and there are clear parallels to this case although this concentrates on the impact on Emma’s family, especially her mother.

You could really sense the uneasiness in this teaser, I’m curious about what happens next! Do they stay? Does a quarrel ensue? That book cover though! Way to draw a reckless book cover lover in 😛

It is interesting to see the contrast in emotions between Emma and her mother – my teaser was chosen to illustrate the difference in Emma since she’d left home. My review will be up soon.

This sounds like the Amanda Knox case…is it a thinly veiled “fiction” version or does it just have lots of similarities?

It has the same premise but it isn’t a fictionalised account – the victim was male, it is set in Spain not Italy and the main thrust is the relationship between Emma and her mother.

Interesting topic. I know I would do anything for me kids – and I can only hope (and pray) that I raise them right and never find myself in a situation like this. I would definitely be interested in reading this book!

I have this one bookmarked on Amazon….I love stories that build on events we have read about in the news, bringing perspectives we might not have even imagined. I read Cartwheel, but this one sounds better. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

I have Cartwheel on my TBR for the same reason but I was drawn to the relationship between mother and daughter in this one. It really is one of those reads that makes you wonder what you would do. As always you’re very welcome 🙂

Whenever I see a news story about a hard to solve murder case, I always wonder if the real story will ever come out.

It is so hard when only the victim and the perpetrator(s) know and this book shows what happens when the lawyers get added into the mix too. I like your teaser…. thanks for sharing.
